2008 Emmy for “Lack of Courage in the Media” goes to

KCET, for pulling "Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?" from its schedule over concern about possible fines from the FCC even though PBS stations in Alabama, Kansas and Mississippi have already aired episodes of the documentary.

“The four-part documentary series, which examines the effect of social and economic inequities upon health, contained a graphic depiction of body parts and an obscene word that could run afoul of federal decency standards, station spokeswoman Laurel Lambert said Friday.”

The Los Angeles Times gave the documentary a must see review Friday while the UCLA Center for Community Learning included this on their website: “You may want to encourage your colleagues and friends to watch this series to better understand the social and environmental determinants of health and to stimulate discussion on how we might adapt our efforts to better address some of these determinants.”

What’s going on at KCET?
